**Rubber Water Stops** are used in the construction of buildings, tunnels, dams, reservoirs, and many other structures. They are available in natural rubber manufactured under TISI (Thai Industrial Standards Institute) standards or specific standards set by the Royal Irrigation Department. A Rubber Water Stop is a rubber strip used for connecting concrete sections. For example, in the construction of high-rise buildings with basements, water storage tanks, or swimming pools (whether underground, on the ground, or on rooftops), these water stops serve as an excellent barrier against water seepage. Since concrete cannot be cast entirely in a single day, water stops are essential to prevent water from leaking through the jointswhether between floor and wall or beam and wall. This prevents future problems after construction is completed. They are widely used to prevent water penetration in basements, bridge beams, water tanks, wastewater treatment ponds, large fish ponds, canals, concrete dams, and all types of concrete water containment structures.
Leakage problems in concrete structures where pouring occurs at different times result from the fact that concrete hardening at different intervals cannot fuse into a single seamless mass. This creates a **Construction Joint**, which is a gap through which water can leak. Additionally, the expansion and contraction of concrete structures due to temperature changes, twisting, or structural movement (**Expansion and Contraction Joints**) are other primary causes of cracking.
Installing rubber water stops in concrete joints is a highly effective and widely used method for preventing water leakage. This is because rubber is a material with excellent elasticity, low water absorption rates, and various profiles for different applications. The installation of water stops is popular in projects such as dams, underground tunnels, basements, swimming pools, and floodgates.
**Sizing:** The width of the water stop must not exceed the thickness of the concrete slab. For example, if the concrete is 9" thick, you should select a water stop with a width of 6" or 8".
**Selection:** Rubber water stops are available in various sizes to meet specific project needs, suitable for buildings, swimming pools, and all types of water storage tanks.
Types of Rubber Water Stops:
1. **Flat Center with Ribbed Ends (TYPE C):** Generally used for construction joints to prevent leakage in areas such as basements, swimming pools, walls, and rooftops. Suitable for structures with minimal expansion.
2. **Center Bulb with Ribbed Ends (TYPE A and TYPE B):** The standard type used in large-scale construction, areas with structural vibration, or where high concrete contraction/expansion occurs, such as dams and underground tunnels. These are ideal for applications requiring high flexibility.
**Thickness:** Rubber water stops are available in 5 mm and 9.5 mm thicknesses.
Rubber Water Stop Strips
Used for connecting concrete joints in high-rise buildings with basements, swimming pools, or water reservoirs (underground or rooftop), and Royal Irrigation Department projects. The water stop acts as a barrier because concrete casting cannot be completed in one day, making it necessary to use these strips to stop seepage at the joint.
