LASWIM AOP-100

Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) Ozone + UV System for Swimming Pools up to 100 m³

Product Description
The LASWIM AOP-100 Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) is an advanced water treatment system designed for swimming pools up to approximately 100 m³.

The system combines Ozone + UV + Advanced Oxidation to provide an additional layer of water treatment beyond conventional filtration and chlorine disinfection.

It helps oxidize organic contaminants, reduce the burden of chloramines and unpleasant odors, and adds another treatment mechanism against certain chlorine-resistant microorganisms.

The AOP-100 is not designed to replace a salt chlorinator or conventional chlorine disinfection system.

For swimming pools up to 100 m³, WinWin Pool recommends maintaining a properly sized Salt Chlorinator as the primary source of residual disinfection and adding the LASWIM AOP-100 as an advanced secondary treatment system.

Salt Chlorinator + AOP

Two different technologies working together to complement each other's strengths and limitations.

Why Add AOP When the Pool Already Has a Salt Chlorinator?
A Salt Chlorinator continuously produces chlorine from salt and helps maintain Free Chlorine and residual disinfection throughout the swimming pool.

This residual protection is important because swimmers and the surrounding environment continuously introduce new contaminants into the water.

However, chlorine does more than disinfect microorganisms.

Swimming pool water receives organic contaminants every day, including:

• Sweat
• Body oils
• Skin cells
• Sunscreen
• Cosmetics
• Nitrogen-containing compounds from swimmers
• Organic contaminants from the surrounding environment

Chlorine must react with many of these contaminants while also performing its primary disinfection function.

When chlorine reacts with nitrogen-containing contaminants and other organic matter, Combined Chlorine and Chloramines may form.

Chloramines are associated with common swimming pool problems such as:

• Strong “chlorine-like” odor
• Eye discomfort
• Skin irritation
• Unpleasant indoor pool atmosphere
• Reduced swimmer comfort

This is where AOP provides an additional level of water treatment.

What Does the LASWIM AOP-100 Do?
1. Helps Control Chloramines
AOP provides additional oxidation capacity that helps address organic contaminants and compounds associated with the formation and accumulation of Combined Chlorine and Chloramines.

This can help improve overall water quality and swimmer comfort, particularly in pools with higher organic loads.

2. Helps Oxidize Organic Contaminants
Sweat, body oils, sunscreen, cosmetics, skin cells, and other organic contaminants continuously enter swimming pool water.

AOP provides an additional oxidation process to help manage this Organic Load.

This reduces the need to rely on chlorine alone to perform both disinfection and oxidation.

3. Helps Reduce Unpleasant Odors
Advanced Oxidation helps treat certain organic compounds and odor-causing contaminants.

This can contribute to improved water quality and a more pleasant swimming environment, particularly in frequently used or indoor swimming pools.

4. Adds Another Barrier Against Chlorine-Resistant Microorganisms
Chlorine is highly effective against many common microorganisms.

However, some microorganisms are significantly more resistant to chlorine or require longer chlorine contact times than common bacteria.

Examples include:

• Cryptosporidium
• Giardia
• Certain viruses that may require greater disinfectant exposure than many common bacteria

By combining Ozone + UV + Advanced Oxidation, the AOP-100 adds another treatment mechanism instead of relying exclusively on chlorine.

How Does the LASWIM AOP-100 Work?
The LASWIM AOP-100 combines:

Ozone + UV + Advanced Oxidation

Ozone provides powerful oxidation, while UV provides an additional treatment mechanism and works together with ozone to promote Advanced Oxidation reactions.

The combined process promotes the formation of highly reactive oxygen species, including Hydroxyl Radicals (•OH).

Hydroxyl radicals are highly reactive oxidizing species capable of reacting rapidly with many organic contaminants.

This provides an additional treatment mechanism beyond conventional filtration and chlorine disinfection.

AOP Does Not Replace Salt Chlorination
WinWin Pool recommends using the LASWIM AOP-100 as an Advanced Treatment System together with a properly designed Salt Chlorinator or conventional chlorine system.

The two technologies perform different functions.

SALT CHLORINATOR
Primary Functions:

• Continuously produces chlorine
• Maintains Free Chlorine
• Provides residual disinfection throughout the pool
• Controls many common microorganisms
• Provides ongoing protection against new contamination during pool operation

AOP
Primary Functions:

• Advanced Oxidation
• Helps reduce Organic Load
• Helps control Chloramines
• Helps reduce unpleasant odors
• Adds another treatment mechanism against certain chlorine-resistant microorganisms

Why Use Both Systems Together?
A Salt Chlorinator provides something that AOP does not:

Residual Disinfection

AOP provides advanced oxidation capabilities that chlorine alone may not perform as effectively under all operating conditions.

Therefore:

The Salt Chlorinator covers what AOP lacks.

AOP helps address areas where chlorine alone has limitations.

Together, they create a more comprehensive Hybrid Pool Water Treatment System.

Recommended Salt Chlorinator Size for a 100 m³ Pool
WinWin Pool uses the following design calculation:

Required Chlorine (g) = Pool Volume (m³) × Target Free Chlorine (ppm)

Residential Pool
WinWin Pool uses approximately 3 ppm as the design target for this sizing calculation.

For a 100 m³ swimming pool:

100 m³ × 3 ppm
= 300 g of chlorine

If this amount is generated within approximately 8 operating hours:

300 ÷ 8
= 37.5 g/h

Therefore, the Salt Chlorinator should have a chlorine production capacity of at least approximately 40 g/h.

To provide additional production capacity and reduce the need to operate continuously at maximum output:

WinWin Pool recommends a 50 g/h Salt Chlorinator for a 100 m³ residential pool.

Commercial / Public Pool
WinWin Pool uses approximately 4 ppm as the design target for this sizing calculation.

For a 100 m³ swimming pool:

100 m³ × 4 ppm
= 400 g of chlorine

If this amount is generated within approximately 8 operating hours:

400 ÷ 8
= 50 g/h

Therefore:

For a 100 m³ commercial or public swimming pool, WinWin Pool recommends a Salt Chlorinator with a chlorine production capacity of at least 50 g/h.

For hotels, resorts, schools, fitness centers, public pools, or facilities with high swimmer loads, the actual chlorinator capacity should also be evaluated according to:

• Bather Load
• Operating Hours
• Water Temperature
• Sunlight Exposure
• Circulation Rate
• Filtration System
• Pool Turnover Rate
• Actual Chlorine Demand

WinWin Pool Recommended Combination
