Green Light 1 Red Light 2: What Is Your Emaux Salt Chlorinator Telling You?

WINWINPOOL has the answer!

If you are a pool technician, pool contractor, or pool owner and notice that your Emaux SSC salt chlorinator displays OPERATION 1 in green and OPERATION 2 in red, you may be wondering what the warning means and where you should start checking.

This condition may be related to low salt levels in the pool. However, low salt is not necessarily the only possible cause. The issue may also be related to scale buildup on the salt cell or low water temperature.

How to Check and Troubleshoot

1. Measure the Salt Level Before Adding Salt

Start by using a salt meter to measure the salt concentration in the pool. Compare the measured value with the recommended salt range for your specific Emaux SSC model.

Emaux SSC50
4,0005,000 ppm
Emaux SSC15 / SSC25
3,0004,000 ppm

2. Add Salt Based on the Amount Needed

If the measured salt level is below the recommended range, calculate the amount of salt required based on the pool volume and the current salt reading.

  • Use swimming pool salt with at least 99% pure NaCl.
  • Calculate the required amount based on pool volume and the measured salt level.
  • Distribute the salt evenly throughout the pool.
  • Do not dump a large amount of salt in one place or directly near the skimmer.

3. Run the Filtration System for 24 Hours

After adding salt, run the pool filtration system to allow the salt to dissolve and circulate throughout the pool. Then measure the salt level again and check the indicator lights on the unit.

Added Salt but the Red Light Is Still On?

If you have added the appropriate amount of salt but the red indicator light is still showing an abnormal condition, further inspection may be required. Possible causes can include scale buildup on the salt cell or other operating conditions within the system.
